Thanksgiving

we had an absolutely beautiful thanksgiving yesterday. we got a long-distance visit from baba, a semi-long distance visit from grammie and aunt kimmy, and a neighborly visit from uncle brian and aunt rayo. we had a great time sharing a TON of food and lots of good conversation. this was my first time to cook a turkey, and thankfully it turned out well! we ate ourselves silly and have SOOOOO much delicious food left to savor for the next few days.
we were lucky enough to have a great visit with baba. he was a tremendous help to me...bringing lunch and helping me walk the crew during this week of the sickies. i'm spoiled now and don't really relish the thought of walking the four-ring circus without him. we have the added blessing that baba is looking into moving here! we would love to have him just down the road from us!
we have so much to be thankful for every day. we are thankful for our health, our children, our children's health, and the blessing of stable employment that provides for our family.

The Land of the Living

we have been SICK. sick, sick, sick! we have been sick since the week before halloween with about a 2-day respite somewhere in the middle. this last round of illness was a doozy. livie had it the worst with a 5-day fever, ear infection, nagging cough, and apparent narcolepsy. it's been a draining couple weeks. today dawns with far fewer sniffles, coughs, and moans. i hope we can maintain a healthy status for at least a week. i think livie's gone to school no more than 5 times the entire month of november. gotta love cold and flu season.
we have been on the fence about vaccinating for H1N1, but after reading just too many horror stories and having us all knocked out by colds, we've decided to vaccinate at least the kids if not all of us. now all we have to do is play phone tag with the pedi's office until the planets align and they can get both kids in (healthy) for the vax. i was supposed to start the phone tag this week, but with two feverish kids most of the week, that was a no go.
i'm starting to think i prefer the blazing summer...something about 100 plus temps seems to keep the viruses to a minimum ;-p
Puppy Love
here is the story of puppy. grammie brought puppy for quinn when he was first born. puppy decorated quinn's room for several months until quinn was rolling well, out of his swaddle, and in the stage of his life where it was time to introduce a transitional object to help him self soothe. enter puppy. the minute we put puppy in quinn's crib to sleep with him...it was love, snuggles, ear sucking, and apparently paw sucking at first sight. if you click on this picture and look closely at puppy's paws, you will see what appears to be some kind of mold/mildew stain. yep, i've washed puppy MANY times to no avail. puppy still stays in the crib with quinn, still gets sucked on, and is just about to be replaced with a new puppy. i have introduced several different loveys to quinn, and he does love them all, but none as much as he loves puppy. for that reason, moldy-pawed puppy will stay with quinn until i can find an identical replacement.
oh, and if you squeeze puppy's tummy, he barks. it's adorable, and the barking always brings a smile to quinn's face. the puppy is ingeniously designed...he has to be squeezed just the right way to bark, so no matter how much toddler loving and snuggling he gets, he does not bark and interrupt sleepy time. you have to pinch his tummy JUST SO to get him to bark. genius!
